Simon is 1 month old

The Knight Life blog is being used not only to keep family and friends updated on our family but also as a sort of scrap book for us. So, in the spirit of some of my blogger friends, I will be writing letters to Simon as time goes by for him to read later in life and for us to remember what he was doing in the early days. I'm a little late on the one month post, but here goes:

Dear Simon,
This month has been such a whirlwind. It is all feels like a bonus because you weren't even "supposed" to be here until June 29th. At 3:39 in the morning on June 1st my water broke. I woke up your daddy who was more than a little surprised because it was a month early. Shortly after, we were on our way to the hospital with Nonna just a few minutes behind. A few hours later, you were here! It all happened so fast, but the feeling that we had when we heard you cry and we saw that you were 100% healthy is unbelievable.
Your Nonna always told me that when you have kids (and more kids and grandchildren etc) that your heart expands. I didn't really know what she meant until you arrived. My heart not only expanded, it swelled with the love I have for you!
We were in the hospital for 5 days and you started to show your personality right away. One day, Nonna and I were changing your diaper and you went pee with the little stream hitting the wall. We laughed so much! But, the funnier part is that you still do that all the time. Just last night at bath time I had to get a new towel because you "blessed it". Here's a picture after your first bath at home.

You make the cutest faces ever when it is feeding time. Just before a feeding when you are rooting around for food, your Dad and I call you Popeye, because you lift your mouth to the side like Popeye the Sailor Man (though this picture looks a little more like Elvis!).
Then, right when you are done eating you give me the biggest smiles every single time (we haven't been able to get a picture of that yet, but we will soon!)

Zoe the cat has adjusted really well to having you around (even though she is a little jealous of the attention you get). She even started sleeping on the ottoman of the chair that I feed you on to be closer to us. She has given you a few good sniffs and does everything she can to be close to you and me.

One of your favorite positions to lay in makes you look like Rodin's Thinker....it is so cute!

One of your favorite things to do when you are fussy is to have your Dad walk up and down the stairs with you. It is quite a workout for him! Every single morning when you wake up and see your Dad for the first time, he says "Remember me? It's your dear old Dad." It is so cute and I love to watch the cute moments your guys share together. You have changed so much in the first month and I can't wait to see what the next month has in store!

I love you with all of my heart,

Mommy
