Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions we receive about little Simon.

1. Why did he come a month early? We will never know with 100% certainty, but it is believed that because he was breech (bottom down) it was too much pressure and he had no room to grow so he wanted to get out early.

2. How did you pick the name Simon? We did not want to name him before he was born, so we went into the hospital with a list of names and once he came out he just looked like a Simon. It is not a family name or anything. We just liked the sound of it.

3. How is Simon adjusting at home? Simon loves to relax at home. He is feeding "on demand" so we don't have much of a schedule (meaning sleep) but he is happy and healthy and that is all that matters.

4. Who does he look like? Most people say he looks like Russell, but truly he looks most like his cousin Dennie when he was this small. If you compare pictures, it is hard to tell them apart! Simon's Mom and Dad were both blond babies, so we assumed he would be a blond as well. Then, he surprised us with dark hair. It has already lightened considerably, so we'll see how it turns out. His eyes are still blue (like his Mom's) but that can still change as well.

Meet my Family

Simon is a very lucky boy to have such a loving family.

This is Simon with his Nonna. She was wonderful enough to come with us to the hospital at 3:30 in the morning, but unfortunately could not be in the room because it was a cesarean birth. She has been an amazing help to us and the two are in love already!

Here is Simon with his PoPo. We've been lucky enough to have a bunch of visits from PoPo before he moves away to Colorado.

This is Simon with his Auntie Stephanie. You can't tell from the picture, but she is 9 months pregnant. Her baby is due July 15th (2 weeks after Simon was supposed to arrived). For some reason, every time she holds baby Simon her baby kicks up a storm. So cute!

Here he is cuddling with Auntie Jennifer who made us a lovely lunch the day we arrived home from the hospital.

This is Simon with his cousin Will (10 yrs old) and Stefan (almost 6 months old). Will has many things to teach them both and is proud to be the older cousin/brother.

Here he is meeting his cousin Dennie who is almost 19 months (cute pose!) They are going to be fast friends!

And lastly, here he is meeting his Auntie Gabrielle in California via Skype. We can't wait to see her in July.

He has had many visitors already and been able to meet the Chicago contingent of his family. He can't wait to meet his grandparents in Hawaii today on Skype and in person when they visit in August. To the rest of his family, you are always welcome and he can't wait to meet you too!

1 Week Doctor Visit

Simon went to his one week doctor appointment yesterday (Tuesday). He is back up to his birth weight which is really great. As it turns out, he is 19" long and not 18.5 as they thought at the hospital. Apparently, it is very common that the length measurements are wrong at the hospital. Because Simon was in the breech position, his first few days after birth his legs were all squished up like a frog so we had suspected he was longer than they said. His legs are relaxing a little more every day, but he is still our little frog. Everything else checked out and he is 100% healthy.

Simon Benjamin Knight

He's Here! Simon's Mommy was sleeping on Monday night after a barbecue with the family and was awakened by her water breaking at 3:39am Tuesday morning. This was a big surprise because Simon was not due to be born until June 29th, 2010. He just couldn't wait to come out and see the world! Simon's Daddy sprung to action and we were off to the hospital in no time. He was born at 9:27am on June 1, 2010 via cesarean section because he had been in the breech position. He weighed 6lbs 1oz and was 18.5 inches long. He came out 100% healthy and we could not be happier. We spent 4 nights in the hospital and came home on Saturday June 5th, 2010 (which happens to be Russell's birthday). As he said, having Simon home was the best birthday present he every received.
